While traveling through the Crystal Valley near the coal town of Redstone, Colorado, our Cowgirls were shown one of the earliest methods of popping corn by the Ute Indians who popped corn right on the cob. They speared the corn cob with a stick and held it near the campfire. The Indians believed the kernels contained spirits and when heated they became angrier and angrier until they burst in the air.
